Statue of Arthur Albert Fantham

Visiting Hawera was the whole point of visiting the North Island. This statue in King Edward Park is of my great-great-grandfather, Arthur Albert Fantham, who was a prominent grazier and farmer in the district, and promoted many “improvements” to farming practices.

There is a cannon in the park which points directly at this statue, and my father used to relate how he would sit on the cannon as a small boy and shoot his distinguished ancestor.
